This highly polished shell is the operculum (also known as Shiva) of a seashell. The operculum acts like a foot, serving as a natural trapdoor to close the shell's mouth when the soft part of the animal is retracted. Found on beaches throughout the Pacific, no live shells are used in the creation of these earrings.
